[1] The goal of this project is to ...MAKE a list of the known 122 Veterans + the additional from January 2024 thru January 2025
- Right now this project just has 2 members,
- me. I am Carole Taylor.
- Hyla Tryon-Jenks
- Denice Kline-Dirks FindAGrave Photographer
- Here are some of the tasks that we think need to be done. I'll be working on them, and could use your help.
- add all f-a-g 969, today's COUNT 969
- December 5 added to findagrave 1) Cobute 2) Hoffman 3) Tobey
- minus so far 4 duplicated memorials done
- research each and make profile
- +2 +5 +3 memory garden +144 Veterans, January 18, 2025 OOOPS!
- which adds up to 154 not 144 but then it was said that at least 3 wreaths were brought from Franktown Cemetery maybe even 10?
- 38 additional Veterans passed away this past year.
- Last year the "list" I was told was 122 Veterans.
- 38 additional Veterans passed away this past year.

- Photograph every headstone and the unmarked Unknown souls laid to rest here.
- Started at the west side of the cemetery looking for the oldest deaths...Jan 25, 2024 Where there is plenty of OPEN area that persons can be. and then across the west road to LOT 10...........
- December 4th 2024 took west side down to the Tallman LOT # plaque.............AND placed the photos on wiki/findagrave and made profiles if needed on both,.
Will you join me? Please post a comment here on this page, in G2G using the project tag, or send me a private message. Thanks!
The Parker Cemetery Locate A Loved One site is really wonderful, however, the "Location" description does not match the signs in the cemetery. The signs are only "LOT" numbers, there are no signs that I can see that say, PHASE #1 or #2.. and no signs, "SECTION" and the numbers used is confusing to try to match.
- I will take photos of all signs I can find, besides the several ROAD signs........
- There are however, like the DAR used "BLOCK" which corresponds with the AREA MAP found on googlemaps.com image at the top of this page, as of 2024 there are headstones only in BLOCKS 1-6...
Here is where the public LIST of the Veterans should be, IF there is one that is public accessible.
First Souls Re-interred at new Location
- Willie Anna (Ann) Shaughnessy formerly Shryock Died Sept 9 1883 Lot 42, Site 9
- Mark Lord --There is no findagrave memorial for this person re-interred in 1885...........
- Jonathan H Tallman (this is the Jonathan Tallman who died 1870 "Killed by Indians) might be the lots are close Lot 49, Grave 13 Photo of headstone taken Jan 25, 2024
- Horatio Foster Died 1880 in Leadville, in Lot 47, Site 13
Persons with Obituaries stating: "Parker Cemetery"
- But the cemetery says "they have no record of this person"
- In order for the "cemetery" to allow a headstone to be placed we first must locate the exact LOT/ SITE that they were laid. "All plots were paid for and reserved by a family and we must identify the exact family plot."
- Peter J Sweeney Civil War Penn. 62nd Inf.
- Charles Herzog Sr. b:1840 in Alsace, France 5 years in the French Army before moving to Parker, Colorado in 1872.
- John F Haywood NOT A Veteran, but newspaper states, Parker
Veterans in OTHER countries
- Different countries.............
- Kreston Martin (Martin) Christiansen Danish Army
- Mikhail Philippovich Ponomarev USSR Russian Naval, Front Lines in WWII

December 14, 2024 I was there and I counted 12 boxes of WAA wreaths... I have been told by a friend that there were 12 in each box= 144, one box could have been a short count, which would just about be the correct number that I believe there are Veterans to received them. December 27, 2024 I went to the cemetery and took a photo of and wrote the name down in my log book= 138 so far. I have worked on Section 1, placing a photo or if not needed just the note that it was there, etc for each of the other 5 "Sections".
- Just counted again, 30 more photos of headstones WITH WAA wreaths on them. The count is now 138
List of the known 122 Veterans Image 7 |
- December 14, 2024, 10am there were approximately 50 Volunteers, including the Color Guard, Civil Patrol Crew that took the wreaths out of the DAR truck, unpacked them, laid them on the ground, and took the boxes down, the Parker Mayor spoke and there were several members of the Board, a Boy Scout troop, DAR members: Regent Rebecca, VRegent Jenny, Tres. Karen, Paula, and Sec. Cindy... The rest of us were Volunteers to lay wreaths.
We got in line, were given instructions that Volunteers were holding 8X10 sheets of colored paper with "BLOCK 1-5" and then we were given a piece of paper with a # "1 -5" on it and 1 wreath to go to the designated BLOCK find a flag, take the flag, fluff up the ribbon/wreath and lay it on or next to the headstone of the Veteran, say their name, and honor them in silence, take the flag back to DAR ladies and get another one to do. (no maps, no lists, no Veterans names) seemed to work ok (A lot less work for the Chapter)
The instructions were easy however, there are some wreaths that were laid just anywhere, random like the 6 year old boy and one that has no headstone nearby. I will go back and look again. The wind at the time I took the photo and the wreath was laid was not strong enough to blow it away, I don't believe. December 27, 2024

Bench with WAA wreath on it no names |
Right at the same space as the buck was eating, when he got through I walked over because there is a WAA wreath leaning against the bench.
- Sorry, I could not find any names, dates or anything on the bench. only flowers and an old pair of deer antlers laying on the rocked area. Further investigation is needed.

History of Cemetery
- "The History of the "also known as J.S. Parker Cemetery, is a historic cemetery in Parker, Colorado. James S. Parker donated three acres for Parker Cemetery around 1884, at which time it held the graves of his two sons. The following year, four early settlers who were buried on a hill just east of the present-day intersection of Parker Road (Highway 83) and E-470 were re-interred at Parker Cemetery.
- The earliest known grave is for Jonathan Tallman who was killed by Native Americans in 1870.[4] Parker (died 1910) and his wife Mattie (died 1887) are also buried there. In 1911, the title to the cemetery was transferred to J.S. Parker Cemetery Association." [1]
- ............."The people known to have been buried there were: the mother of Charles Shaughnessy, first name not specified; Mark Lord; Tallman, first name not identified; and Horatio Foster. In 1885 the remains of those four persons were exhumed and re-interred at a new cemetery,
