General Information

Cemetery Name: Lloydtown Pioneer Cemetery (also known as Lloydtown Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery)

Address: 6600 19th Sideroad, Schomberg, Ontario, Canada

GPS Coordinates: 43.988508, -79.694200

History

Lloydtown Pioneer Cemetery was established in 1834 on land that was donated by Jesse Lloyd, the founder of the hamlet of Lloydtown. A Wesleyan Methodist Church was built across the road from the cemetery in 1844. In 1908, the church was destroyed by fire.

The cemetery was active for over a century, but was eventually abandoned. In 1999, following decades of neglect, the cemetery was restored by King Township Historical Society.

Many local pioneers and settlers from the British Isles were buried in this cemetery. Due to the age of some of the gravestones, many are difficult to read or illegible. A stack of cracked gravestone pieces can be found in a back corner of the cemetery.
