Louisiana Arborists Team

The purpose of the Louisiana Arborists Team is to do our part in supporting WikiTree's mission of a fully collaborative single family tree, by ensuring that there are no duplicate Louisiana profiles.

Team members seek out duplicate profiles associated with the State of Louisiana, and help to properly resolve conflicts before merging them. Members of the team are encouraged to join the Arborists Project on WikiTree, and strive to follow its guidelines. This will help team members to develop and maintain their arboring skills and stay up to date with current guidelines.

Team Tasks

  • Review project’s Pending Merges feed. Help collaborate on research issues identified in profile comments and research notes.
    • Special attention should be paid to merges of different LNABs. Work with project leaders to finalize and temporarily lock (PPP) the correct LNAB as soon as possible after a merge is proposed, and to remove the temporary lock after merge is completed.
    • For merge proposals that are default approved and awaiting completion, do a final review and complete the merge if ready. Set as unmerged match if it needs more time or research. Reject the merge if proven not to be a match, giving your reason for the rejection.
  • Review Unmerged Matches of Louisiana Project managed profiles. Many of these have been laying around for years, and the profile pairs involved may not represent the same people. Be very careful to research before re-proposing merges. It's especially important to review all comments and research notes on both profiles, which may explain the reasoning for doubts about the merge. It's OK to leave them be if you aren't sure, in which case you should add appropriate Maintenance Categories so the profiles will get more attention.
  • Review family members of duplicated profiles, even if they are not in the project. Sometimes entire family lines are duplicated.
  • Review Data Doctors Louisiana Suggestions List - "Relation" section - for possible merge suggestions. Set the proper DD status for each merge suggestion considered.
    • DBE 105 Duplicate sibling
    • DBE 106 Duplicates between global tree and unconnected
    • DBE 113 Duplicate in relatives
    • DBE 209 Father is also a sibling
    • DBE 211 Duplicate sibling by father
    • DBE 408 Multiple marriages on same day
    • DBE 409 Marriage to duplicate person
    • DBE 418 Partner is also a sibling
  • Other places to find duplicates:
    • Review newly-added Louisiana profiles for possible duplications, especially for profiles that are over 150 years old. Sometimes a minor difference in name spelling or birth/death dates can cause unintentional duplicates. See this G2G question for an idea on how to check recently added profiles.
    • Search a known Louisiana surname by clicking the surname link of a profile, then sort the resulting list by birth date order. Review for similar names in close proximity on the list that could be duplicates.
    • Browse through a Louisiana parish category, which is sorted by name, and search for similar names that could be duplicates.
