Louisiana BioBuilders Team

The purpose of the Louisiana BioBuilders Team is to build our Louisiana profiles to their fullest potential, resulting in beautiful, useful, and well-written biographies. We wish to make the stories of our ancestors come alive, with more than just a collection of dates and places or a list of sources. The biography section is used to tell those stories, and to discuss research questions.

Louisiana BioBuilders Team members are encouraged to join the Profile Improvement Project on WikiTree. Taking a journey on their PIP Voyage, in which they guide voyagers to "improve profiles to their most complete state," is highly recommended. Team members might also want to participate in the Biography Builders challenges, focusing on our Louisiana profiles. The challenges are non-competitive, focusing on quality rather than quantity. This is a fun way to help team members develop and maintain their narrative writing skills and stay up to date with WikiTree styles and standards.

The WikiTree Biography Builders have put together a suggested checklist, which should provide some good ideas for writing narrative biographies.

Team Tasks

The BioBuilders Team is asked to focus primarily on the maintenance categories mentioned below. Please refrain from rewriting biographies on the managed profiles of other active PMs unless the "Biography needed" category is present, or permission is obtained from the PM. (See WikiTree's Communications Before Editing guidelines.) You may of course work on any orphaned profile or Project-managed profile that needs it, if there is enough information to create a reasonably complete narrative.

  • Update profiles in the following maintenance categories. Once the need has been satisfied, delete the category from the profile.
    • Category:Louisiana, Needs Biography - Generally, the primary research for profiles in this category should be mostly done and they are ready for a narrative to be written. If that is not the case, feel free to take it as far as you can, then add the appropriate maintenance categories if the profile still needs attention.
    • Category:Louisiana, Needs Inline Citations - Usually this means that a source list exists under the ==Sources== heading, but the profile has no inline citations to show which assertions the sources support. A narrative can be added where needed so that an inline citation can be connected to its data. If the profile still needs more research, make sure to enter the appropriate maintenance categories.
  • Review project’s managed profiles for those that need improvements to biographies.
  • Participate in monthly BioBuilders challenges whenever possible, focusing on Louisiana profiles -- or your own, just for fun!
