Categories Team!
The purpose of the Louisiana Categories Team is to do our part in supporting WikiTree's mission by helping to maintain a logical structure to the categorization of profiles. This aids WikiTree members in locating, researching, improving and maintaining profiles. Team members follow the Categorization Project for category naming and hierarchy guidelines.
Team members seek to ensure that appropriate categories are available to be included on Louisiana profiles, in order to assist all members in researching individuals and families in the context of their communities and cultures. This team is not responsible for adding categories to profiles, although they certainly can do so.

Team Tasks
- Update Louisiana category pages per Categorization Project standards. Specifically, for each category page:
- Include a category information box (CIB), appropriately filled out, for all location categories.
- Review parent category entries for appropriateness and consistency.
- Reduce text on category pages to a minimum, according to Categorization Project guidelines. In some cases, this may require the creation of detailed space pages. When that becomes necessary, be sure to place a link to the space page on the category page.
- Update the Louisiana category structure to conform with the newly reorganized Louisiana Project:
- Integrate the old Louisiana Families hierarchy into the main Louisiana hierarchy. Remove Category: Louisiana Families Project as a parent on all categories, replacing with appropriate parent category (probably Category: Louisiana) where appropriate.
- Integrate the old Louisiana Categories hierarchy into the main Louisiana hierarchy. Remove Category: Louisiana Categories Project as a parent on all categories, replacing with appropriate parent category (probably Category: Louisiana) where appropriate.
- Review and correct category errors in the Louisiana category hierarchy. Click on the highlighted error for more info.
- Review cemeteries under each Parish subcategory under the main Louisiana category.
- Make sure that no cemeteries appear directly under the parish category. Any that do should be edited to remove the main parish category as a parent category, and have the parish's cemetery category as parent instead.
- Review Errors in Cemetery Categories - there are many missing Category Information Boxes (CIBs) to be entered, as well as missing lat/long coordinates and other errors. Including lat/longs allows the cemetery to be included in cemetery mapping.
- Check maintenance categories for profiles that need categories created:
- Review profiles under the war categories to determine if they can be placed into a specific unit category.
- Create other new categories as needed or requested, including:
- Cemeteries, towns, military units
- Topical categories that apply to individual topics
- Personal categories, when requested by members
