Louisiana GEDCOM Team
The purpose of the Louisiana GEDCOM Team is to help clean up the mess left in Louisiana profiles that were created by GEDCOM imports. The early days of WikiTree allowed mass importing of GEDCOM files, resulting in poorly formatted, poorly sourced, and sometimes incomprehensible profiles. GEDCOMs imported in more recent years are in better shape, but still could use some help. The sheer number of profiles that remain in poor condition is overwhelming to consider. Our goal is to clean up and improve them, one profile at a time.
Team members seek out all Louisiana profiles that were created by GEDCOM imports, and clean up the extraneous bits that are not relevant to genealogy, making them more readable and in conformance with WikiTree's styles and standards. We use Help:GEDCOM-Created_Biographies as a guide to improving these profiles. We also add maintenance categories where needed to draw the attention of other volunteers who wish to help make improvements.

- Work on profiles in Louisiana, Needs GEDCOM Cleanup category. See this general video on Cleaning up Gedcom junk. This is an old video from 2017, and is mostly okay EXCEPT you should NOT delete the APID notations from Ancestry citations! Those can be converted into links to the cited record using this template:
- {{Ancestry Record|APID#|RECORD#}}
For each profile reviewed, in addition to cleaning up, consider the following:
- If the profile has a complicated mess of citations, consider using the Automatic GEDCOM Cleanup (AGC) tool - this tool can be helpful to reduce time cleaning up citations and SPAN tags on complex GEDCOM imports (esp. from Ancestry). Just be aware that it often creates Research Notes that are unnecessary or confusing and that should be reviewed and cleaned up when possible.
- If the profile has no valid sources, add the {{Unsourced|Louisiana}} template. See WikiTree's guidelines for when the Unsourced template should be used.
- If the profile has minimal sources, add [[Category:Louisiana, Needs More Records]].
- If the profile has other maintenance needs, add the appropriate maintenance category.
