Researching Fenton line...

My mother's maternal line Rose Dugan nee Fenton was raised in the Gilgandra district of NSW.

Rose's mother Mary Jane Boyde came out from Ireland in early 1840's.. married at Tuena ( during Gold rush in 1858 ) at a very young age of 14.

Mary Jane married Isaac Fenton who was only 16.

Mary could read & write ... Isaac assumed illiterate as he signed his wedding certificate with a cross.

The Boyde connection is a mystery James & Catherine Boyde Mary's parents no trace & were not signatures on Mary's wedding certificate. Assume as Mary was married at a young age her parents were no longer around & this was the way she could be protected specially in Tuena with a tough life then with a gold rush going on around them. Isaac family were all into farming then in the area. Isaac & Mary moved eventually from Tuena & settled in Gilgandra. They had 12 children the youngest was Rose my grandmother born 1882 who went on to marry Thomas Dugan in 1906 settling out further west at Walgett on a sheep property.
