Now that we know there are multiple, unrelated paternal-McCool lines in the early Southern US, it's more useful than even to collect Y-DNA tests from living McCool men.

Nicholas McCool (abt.1798 TN or NC - 1848 Davidson Co TN) is believed to be a key ancestor to many McCool families, especially those in the Nashville Tennessee area. However, evidence tying him to his probable parents is circumstantial. At least one Big Y-700 test from one of his living male McCool-surname descendants would help advance our knowledge of his ancestry.

In this research project, we will attempt to deceased McCool men who descend on their paternal line directly from Nicholas. We will then use that information to identify potential living McCool men (although we won't publish them on WikiTree) to recruit to take a Big Y-700 test.
