Goals

The purpose of this page is to summarize the DNA findings of people in the Maple Surname Project.

We are hoping for the participation not only of MAPLEs, but of all WikiTree members with MAPLE ancestry, regardless of surname. We hope to use autosomal DNA testing to make connections that can not be made through Y-DNA testing.

Right now this project just has one member, me. I am Bruce Maple.

Will you join me? Please post a comment here on this page or send me a private message. Thanks!

Y Chromosome DNA

We are recruiting males with the MAPLE surname for Y-DNA testing. See Space: MAPLE Y-DNA Haplogroup.
4 descendants of David Maple Sr. have done advanced Y-DNA SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) testing at Family Tree DNA. Here is a list of mutations that Bruce Maple has tested positive for in a Big Y-700 test, in the order which they are believed to have occurred.[1] The age estimates are approximate,[2] and should not be taken too literally.

Autosomal DNA

Benjamin Maple Sr had three known children: Benjamin Jr, Ruth, and Catherine. Descendants of each are grouped separately below.

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Descendants of Benjamin Maple Jr:

David Maple > David Maple Jr > David Maple III > Jasper Maple > David Maple > Jasper Maple > John Maple > Claude Maple > Bruce Maple
Bruce Maple (Y haplogroup R-FGC46245) has done autosomal DNA testing with Family Tree DNA and Ancestry DNA (GEDMatch #A727534)

Mary Maple > Mathias Roseberry > Elizabeth Roseberry > Thomas Mitchell > Sarah Mitchell >William Nelson
A private descendant of William Nelson has autosomal DNA (40 cM) that matches Bruce Maple as a 5th - remote cousin .[3] This includes an 8.59 cM DNA segment on chromosome 14 that is shared by a descendant of Harold Maple. This is consistent with all 3 having a nearest common ancestor - Benjamin Maple Jr.
This descendant of William Nelson also shares a 3.2 cM segment on chromosome 16 with Bruce Maple and a descendant of Emily (Henderson) Elek.

Benjamin Maple III? > William Maple > John B Mapel > John V Mapel > Mary Mapel > Ella Shriver
A descendant of Ella Shriver shares 5.4 cM (over 2 segments) with Bruce Maple.

David Maple > Ezekiel Maple > Ezekiel Maple > George Maple > Wm. Maple > Virginia Maple >> Levi Madison
William Maple > Benjamin Maple- > Mary Maple > George Maple > Wm. Maple > Virginia Maple >> Levi Madison
Levi Madison shares a 12 cM segment with Heath Vogel (descendant of David Maple Sr).
Levi Madison also shares 5.3 cM (on 2 segments) with Bruce Maple.

David Maple > David Maple Jr > William Maple > Amelia Maple > Andrew Henderson > Emily Henderson
+ ...... David Maple Jr > Joseph Maple > Isaac Maple > Elizabeth Maple > Emily Henderson
A private descendant of Emily (Henderson) Elek has autosomal DNA (39 cM) that matches Bruce Maple as a 4th - remote cousin .[4] This is consistent with having a nearest common ancestor - David Maple Jr.

David Maple > David Maple Jr > David Maple III > Jasper Maple > John Maple > Grover Maple > Harold Maple
A private descendant of Harold Maple has autosomal DNA (90 cM) that matches Bruce Maple as a 4th cousin. This is consistent with having a nearest common ancestor - Jasper Maple.

David Maple > David Maple Jr > David Maple III > Jasper Maple > John Maple > Joseph Maple > Stanley Maple
A private descendant of Stanley Maple has autosomal DNA (27.9 cM across 2 segments) that matches Bruce Maple as a 4th - 6th cousin. This is consistent with having a nearest common ancestor - Jasper Maple.

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Descendants of Ruth (Maple) Atchley:

Jesse Atchley Sr > [uncertain] Thomas Atchley > Joshua Atchley >>>> Jack Foster.
Several descendants of Joshua Atchley have done autosomal DNA testing:
Heath Vogel (descendant of Benjamin Maple Jr) shares a 7.1 cM DNA segment with Mellissa (Foster) Fetter and a different 5.6 cM segment with Jack Foster.
Bruce Maple shares 5.6 cM on chromosome 8 with Lazarus kits for Robert Foster and Katherine Foster.
Levi Madison (descendant of Benjamin Maple Jr) shares 2 segments (totaling 4.7 cM) with Jack Foster. Bruce Maple shares 1.8 cM with Levi and Jack on one of these segments (on chromosome 16). This chromosome 16 segment may be DNA passed down from Benjamin Maple Sr or his wife Elizabeth (or it might be DNA passed down a different line from a more distant common ancestor who lived hundreds of years earlier).

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Descendants of Catherine (Maple) Mellott:

John Mellott >>> Mary Mellott >>>>> Allen Brown
Allen Brown shares a 3.5 cM segment with Levi Madison (a descendant of Benjamin Maple Jr).
Allen Brown shares a 4.6 cM segment with a private descendant of Harold Maple.

John Mellott >Obediah Mellott
A private descendant of Obediah Mellott shares 4.32 cM (in 2 segments) on chromosome 14 with Bruce Maple and a private descendant of Harold Maple. These chromosome 14 segments may be DNA passed down from Benjamin Maple Sr or his wife Elizabeth.
