David L. Melton
to
John Slatton
For the consideration of seventy five dollars to me in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, before the delivery hereof, I, David L. Melton have this day bargained and sold, and by these presents do transfer and convey unto John Slatten[sic] a certain piece or parcel of land consisting of fifty five acres by estimation be the same more or less, lying and being in the 4th District of Marion County, Tennessee on the top of Cumberland mountain, Beginning at a sasfras[sic] on the bluff of the Pocket thence with said bluff to the mouth of the Bark Camp Branch to a stake and pointers thence north to a stake and pointers, conditional corner between John Slatton and Wm. Griffith; thence with a conditional line between the said Melton and Griffith and to the beginning. and I futher[sic] agree and covenant with the said John Slatton to warrant and forever defend the title of the said land against all persons claiming(illegible) through or by me.

Personally gathered before me, James S. Deakins, Clerk of said County, Isaac Hicks and John Andes, subscribing witnesses to (illegible) being first duly sworn (illegible) and say that they are personally acquainted with the within named David L. Melton, the bargainor[sic] and that he acknowledged the same in their presence to be his act and deed for the purposes therein contained.
