"The original Caucasian settlement of Tulpehocken was made in the spring of 1723, when a group of German families, including Zerbe, arrived there from New York state. The Zerbe family was headed up by Martin Zerbe (b. 1671) and included four sons, all natives of Kettenbach, Nassau, Hessen. This book emphasizes the origins of the Zerbe family in Germany, their brief stay in England before migrating to the Hudson River valley in New York and then on to Tulpehocken, and the genealogy and life history of the Zerbe descendants of Martin and his four sons. Two restrictions were followed in compiling the book: the Zerbe lines were carried down only into the 20th century and non Zerbe surname lines resulting from the marriage of Zerbe daughters were carried down only a single generation."
