Each record has a general series id associated such as CM1135. Then there are additional breakdowns of the series to get you to the specific collection of records (CM1132-63). Just searching for the series id should bring you right to any specific online searchable files or info on availability only in the archives searchroom.

Basic Citation Format

Go to the Research Guides and enter the series id. Under series information, just comma seperate each line and put [[Space:Maryland State Archives|MSA]] before the series id. The series information will truncate the series id down to the series group. Put the full series id that will take you right to the records for that subset (eg. use CM1132-4 not just CM1132). Add any additional info to get to that record, certificate number (if available) and page number.

I add a line break and then put any useful info cited from that record.

On index records put any certificate number as cited info. You are not citing from certificate, you are citing the index which contains the certificate number index. Just put the page number to be able to quickly get to the record.

Refer to the Maryland State Archive Citation Guide for anything that does not seem to fit this format.
