Matthew E Mitchell Sr. 1921 - 2009

Matthew E. Mitchell Sr. of St. Michaels died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009.

He was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Baltimore.

He is survived by his wife, Betty E. Mitchell; a daughter, Ann Roe and husband Donald of St. Michaels; four sons, Mark Mitchell and wife Judith of Perry Hall, Robert Mitchell of Cambridge, Richard Mitchell of Cockeysville, and William Mitchell and wife Roslyn of Towson.

He leaves 14 loving and special grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew E. Mitchell Jr.

Betty Jane Emerick Mitchell 1925 - 2015

Betty Jane Mitchell, of St. Michaels, passed away at Talbot Hospice House on March 28, 2015. Betty was born on November 7, 1925 in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Merle Elizabeth Hill and Richard Clarence Emerick.

She married Matthew E. Mitchell, Sr. on October 25, 1946.

Betty had an entrepreneurial spirit, she loved to be challenged, and was always interested in learning something new. She opened one of the 1st exercise salons in Towson, Md. in the 1950's and enjoyed a successful career in real estate in the 1970's.

She moved to her adored town of St. Michaels in 1981 and soon after opened St. Michaels Pottery Warehouse, a unique home accessory store, which she operated with her daughter for more than 15 years. Of all of Betty's accomplishments she wouldn't hesitate to tell you her children and grandchildren were her greatest, she loved her family deeply.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Ann Merle Roe and her husband Don, of St. Michaels. Son William F. Mitchell, and wife Roslyn, sons Richard L. Mitchell and Robert E. Mitchell, son Mark D. Mitchell and wife Judy, and daughter-in-law Valerie Mitchell all of Baltimore County.

She is also survived by 14 adored grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Raymond and sisters Janet & June, her husband of 63 years Matthew E. Mitchell, Sr. and eldest son Matthew E. Mitchell, Jr.
