Looking for information about William Maynard of Wilkes county NC born approximately 1720 in Devonshire England. William is the earliest link I can find in my family. I believe his wife is Agatha Damron.

The Maynards are a huge mystery wrapped up in an enigma!

I am a descendent of Samuel Maynard in Buncombe County, North Carolina. According to one of his grandchildren, he was born sometime in June 1882 and died in either 1910 or 1913 as per word of mouth by family (someone reportedly named Sam N Maynard). The only record I have managed to find has been a 1910 Census of him living in Caney River, Yancey, North Carolina with Ella Maynard (his wife Florence Ella Buckner Maynard) and five children: Clyde, Corra (most likely Carrie), Walter, Laura, and Lee. There is a marriage certificate (7 March 1899) between Samuel and Florence that has his father listed as Morris Maynard however there is no other information available for Samuel, his parents, or potential siblings.

I thought I may have had a lead via 23andMe; Samuel may have a (half?) brother, Lewis Maynard, and more in or around Marquette, Michigan (possibly?). This side of my family is a really big mystery as no family here around Asheville know anything about Samuel so I am stuck at a huge wall.

Maybe someone out there has some information for us on some of these mysterious Maynards!

Brett, we are a mysterious bunch ,aren't we? I am Maynard by birth. My step father didn't want my mother to tell me anything about my father's family. I pieced together quite a bitmyself. I knew my dad's name and bd., my grandfather's name and a couple of half siblings of my father's. I knew he had several children, by many wives, he had a daughter just 6 years younger than my mom. I have traced his line back to Braxton Maynard, born in Barren county Ky. In 1826. His father was William and his mother was Mary Polly Wilkerson or Wilkinson. It seems she went by both or an error in transcription. Maybe, eventually, we will see if we're kin. Thanks for starting this page, Fran
