The first burial in the cemetery register is dated 3 January 1899. However the grave of Francis Sandys Dugmore, which is not in the register carries a death date of 1898 so there were burials that took place before a formal register was started. Routine burials stopped in the early 1960's when the cemetery became full. However in recent years there has been some in-filling between old graves so it is effectively still in use. The total number of burials is uncertain but will be close to 2,000.

There are 4 distinct sections.

1) Protestant section: As well as civilian burials this section also includes wargraves from the 1st World War.

2) Catholic section: This section was certainly in use before the register was started and contains Goan as well as European burials.

3) Jewish section: This small area has eleven graves one of which is a wargrave.

4) CWGC: There is a separet section for wargraves containing casualties from the 2nd World War. The CWGC have a permanent office located at the cemetery.
