Biography

Dorothea Poyntz^[1] of the "Benefield Branch"^[2] of the Poyntz family, was the eldest daughter^[3] of Captain Newdigate Poyntz and Sarah (Foxley) Poyntz. She was baptized at Benefield, Northamptonshire, on 3 Jan 1631/2.^[2]

in 1659^[2] Dorothea married the Reverend John Owsley, vicar of Stogursey, Somerset, and later the Rector of Glooston, Leicestershire.^[3]

Dorothea and John Owsley had twelve children, eight sons, and four daughters.^[3]

Her eight sons were: John, William, Thomas ^[4] who settled in the Colony of Jamestown, Virginia, by Sept 1677,^[5] Newdigate, Henry, Francis, Poyntz, and Charles.

Her four daughters were: Sarah, Edith, Mary, and Dorothea.

Dorothea (Poyntz) Owsley died on 2 Aug 1705 ^[2] and was buried in Glooston, Leicestershire, at Glooston Parish^[6] (aka St. John the Baptist^[7]) Church together with her husband Rector John.^[3]
