The Annals of Ulster

The Annals of Ulster (Irish: Annála Uladh) are annals of medieval Ireland that span the years from 431 CE to 1540 CE. The entries up to 1489 AD were compiled, at the request of his patron Cathal Óg Mac Maghnusa, by the scribe Ruaidhrí Ó Luinín, in Irish and Latin. The work was completed in the late 15th century on the island of Senadh-Mic-Maghnusa and now known as Belle Isle, near Lisbellaw, on Lough Erne in the kingdom of Fir Manach. Later entries, 1489 to 1540 CE, were added by others. The original manuscript is in Trinity College Dublin.

The Annals of Ireland - The Four Masters

The Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland (Irish: Annála Ríoghachta Éireann) or the Annals of the Four Masters (Annála na gCeithre Máistrí) are handwritten manuscripts written between 1632 to 1636 in early modern Irish and Latin that compile earlier manuscripts and chronicle medieval Irish genealogical history from A.M. 2242 the year of the Deluge to the death of Hugh O'Neill, the Earl of Tyrone in 1616 CE.
The chief compiler of the annals was Franciscan Brother Mícheál Ó Cléirigh from Ballyshannon, who was assisted by, among others, Cú Choigcríche Ó Cléirigh, Fearfeasa Ó Maol Chonaire, and Cú Choigríche Ó Duibhgeannáin. Collectively the compilers have become known as "The Four Masters". Written 100 years after the Annals of Ulster, some repetition of content from the Annals of Ulster is included. The first English version appeared in 1846.
