Location: Boston or Middleboro
Surname/tag: McCleary, Matchet, Lynn, Green, Hyde
I have photos of 4 individuals included here, all apparently from the McCleary family according to an old family photo album currently in my possession. It came to me from my grandmother Grace Palmer Lynn after her death.
Photos include: Mrs McCleary, an older woman (possibly late 60s or early seventies) in a bonnet with a big bow tie beneath her chin. She has already lost her teeth making it difficult to guess her age. The picture was taken at the Putnam studio in Middleboro, Massachusetts sometime in the mid to late 1800's. In the family album, she is listed as coming from Ireland.
Intriguingly, she is described in my album as a cousin to Mary Ann Matchet and her husband William Robert Lynn, both of whom are my great great grandparents. They both came over to Leeds County, Upper Canada, on the same ship from Antrim, Ireland in 1851. and married some 5 years later. At this time, I know of no other McCleary's in our family or how they might have been related to the Matchet's and/or the Lynn's, or Greens or Hyde's. Mary Ann's mother was Grace Green Matchet, William Robert's mother was Alice Hyde.
There must have been close family connections as I also have photos of Anna McCleary, possibly a daughter or daughter in law. She looks to be in her twenties or early thirties. Note that her dress has a bustle. Does that give anyone any clues as to when the photo was taken?
Sadie (Sarah?) McCleary, looks about 9-11 years old. Was she an another daughter of Mrs Mcleary or possibly a granddaughter of Mrs. McCleary.
Also a photo of a Mr McCleary with a hat and cane, no given first name, who might be late twenties or early thirties. He may have been either a son or son in law.
Mary Ann Matchet and William Robert Lynn sent two of their daughters Alice and Rebecca Lynn to the Waltham, Boston area to train as nurses, probably at different times as Alice was 10 years older than Rebecca. The parents may have visited the McClearys at one time as I have a photo of both of Mary Ann and William Robert and one son taken in Waltham, Mass
Any help in finding how this family is connected to mine would be much appreciated.
