The following was transcribed from legal documents held in the courthouse in Hallowell, Prince Edward County, Ontario. It occurred after the death of Eli Seely McConnell. His oldest son, Joseph McConnell, heir of Eli, quitclaimed his rights to this property to his half-brother, William McConnell. Also mentioned are Eli's widow, Roxalane or Roxy, and their daughter, Roxalane McConnell Ballard, and Roxalane's husband and the family lawyer, Norman Ballard. and a witness, Reuben Burlingham. Reuben's relationship to the family is unknown at the time, but it is noted that he named a daughter, Roxy.


To the Register of the County of Prince Edward

A memorial of a Deed of Conveyance in the words following:

Know all men by these Presents that I William Maconnell of the Township of Hallowell County of

Prince Edward and Province of Upper Canada, for and in consideration of the Sum of Fifty pounds of Lawful money of the Province aforesaid and Received by me the aforesaid William Maconnell: and by these Presents acknowledge to be Received of Rockselane Maconnell, widow of the late Eli Maconnell deceased, have granted Bargained aliened Sold and Released all Right and title both in Law and Equity and by the these Presents do grant Bargain Sell and convey unto the Said Rockselane McConnell all and Singular my Right and title of or in and to the Premises known and described as the Easterly half quarter of the west half of Lot number Seven East Side of the East Lake – except Ten acres Sold and conveyed by me the aforesaid William Macconell unto Cap t Samuel Blackley – of the aforementioned Place. Which said ten acres are the South and of the above written Easterly quarter of the west half of Lot number Seven and described in the within Quit claim Deed executed and conveyed unto the above written William Macconnell by Joseph Maconnell of the Town of Vienna in the County of Oneida in the State of New York, being son of the above written Eli Maconnell deceased, and heir at law to the Estate of him the Said Eli Maconnell deceased: unto which covenants and agreements and likewise to Surrender the Possession of the Said Premises to her the Said Rockselana Maconnell by the first day of February next. I bind myself my heirs executors administrators and assigns in the final Sum of one hundred Pounds Lawful money of Said Province.

Signed sealed and delivered this first day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Twenty nine in the Presence of us.

In testimony whereof the Said Rockselana Macconnell hereunto sets her hand and seal the

Sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty three.
