Meador Family Home-place
For over 120 years the Meador Family Home-place has been at 1739 Neal Shoals Road in Union County, South Carolina. The house was built by Austin Wilson in 1852 and then sold to William P Thompson in 1856. John Meador Jr, (1812-1883), my 2nd great grandfather, bought the home in 1857. It was passed down to Meredith Brown Meador and then to Judson Felder Meador (1885-1936), my grandfather. He had cancer and died at the early age of 50, leaving my grandmother Leannie a widow with 7 children (5 boys & 2 girls). My father, Morris Meador was one of the children who grew up here. My grandfather had a long period of decline with his illness and the Home-place and over 700 acres were sold to his brother, Arthur Douglas Meador ( 1897-1986) in 1929. After WW II, when grandmother's sons returned from serving, a house was built on Wilson St. in the town of Union where they moved. In the 1950s Uncle Douglas added onto and did extensive remodeling of the house and took up residence. After Uncle Douglas's death in 1986, the home was sadly sold outside of the family.
