Background

This profile is part of the Edisto Island, South Carolina One Place Study.

Part of Scanawah Island on Edisto Island, Meggett Place was originally part of a large (over 1,000 acre) parcel that was subsequently partitioned. Laurel Hill and Brookland Plantations were sold off. The plantation staying in the Meggett family for over 100 years, then was passed to other families, and eventually returned to the family.[1]
