Mitchell and grandson, Todd with the Redfish

My grandfather, Mitchell Lalonde, would sometimes take me fishing or crabbing when I would visit in Port Arthur but only from the shore. When I was about 11, my father took us fishing in his boat catching groupers in the bay.

Mitchell was using a little Zebco 1 spinner reel and rod and suddenly had a big fish on the the line. It took quite some time to reel him in on that little rig and the fish pulled our boat some distance.

My grandfather had always wanted to catch a big Redfish and now he had. When we got back to the his house, neighbor and others came over to hear the news and see the fish before they cleaned it in the backyard.

My grandfather was very happy until they started to clean the fish and found it was full of worm. That Redfish wasn't the one that got away -- just the one he had to throw away.
