  1. Contact Alberta Archives, ask to research any court records for Committals under the Mental Health Act. Also ask for them to search any other possible court records, as charges may have been placed.

  2. Check Census records to identify if you can find the ancestor listed as a resident

    1. Complete the Form, provide an additional document if necessary, as locating older records can prove difficult. If you are looking for several sets of records, eg you have court documents outlining several visits to Ponoka, include all dates. Also include all names the person may be under.

  3. You will need to provide a proof of relationship, providing them a family tree link through a source such as WikiTree and "related to me" appears to be enough evidence
  4. Files from Oregon State Insane Hospital appear to be available, and may contain pictures, please see Walter V Swank (1868-1944) for examples of records you may find
  5. Some residences's ashes may still be there waiting to be claimed, even though they died many decades ago
