The Immigrant Ship Merchant Prince voyage of January 5 1858 - March 9 1858

March 9— Merchant Prince, ship, from Liverpool, with 470 Government emigrants. Placed in quarantine.

Government Emigration. - During the past year there sailed under the superintendence of her Majesty's Emigration Commis-sioners 70 ships to the Australian colonies, viz. : 33 to Victoria, 25 to New South Wales, 11 to South Australia, and 1 to Western Australia;
83 sailed from Liverpool, 21 from Plymouth, and 11 from Southampton
the number of emigrants conveyed amounted to 24,662 souls. For the six previous years, the numbers ranged as follows, viz., in 1851, 11,693; in 1852, 34,095; in 1853, 27,723; in 1854, 41,065; in 1855, 28,016; and in 1850, 20,385 ; making a total for tho seven years of 187.639....
The following vessels have been despatched to Melbourne by the Emigration Commisoners :-
The Merchant Prince, from Birkenhead, on Jan. 5, with 472 emigrants. Of these, 40 were married couples, 70 single men, 134 single women, and 170 children, equal to 370 statute adults. Of this number, 233 were English, 180 Scotch, and 59 Irish. Sur-geon, E. W. Doman, Esq. ; matron, Jane Hall.
