Consent of the US Senate to the appointment of Michael Murphy as US Consul at Malaga

The following written message from the President of the United States, by Mr. Lear, his Secretary, was communicated to the President of the Senate:[1]

United States, March 1, 1793.

Gentlemen of the Senate:

    I nominate Samuel Cooper Johonnet, of Massachusetts, to be Consul for the United States at the port of Demarara, and for all parts under the same allegiance, in America/which shall be nearer to the said port than to the residence of any other Consul or Vice-Consul of the United States within the same allegiance.
    Michael Murphy; of Malaga, in the kingdom of Spain, to be Consul for the United States at the said port of Malaga, and for such other parts of the said kingdom as shall be nearer to the said port than to the residence of any other Consul or Vice-Consul of the United States within the same allegiance; and
    James Greenleaf, of Massachusetts, to be Consul for the United States at Amsterdam, in the United Netherlands, and for all parts of the said United Netherlands which shall be nearer to the port of Amsterdam than to the residence of any other Consul or Vice-Consul of the United States within the same United Netherlands.

    Ordered, That it lie for consideration.

SATURDAY, March 2, 1793.

The Senate took into consideration the message of the President of the United States, of the 1st instant, and the nominations therein contained, of

Benjamin Lincoln, of Massachusetts,
Beverly Randolph of Virginia, and of
Timothy Pickering, of Pennsylvania,

to be Commissioners on the part of the United States for holding a conference or treaty with the hostile Indians; and

    Resolved,
That they advise and consent to their appointments, agreeably to the nominations respectively.

    Ordered,
That the Secretary lay this resolution before the President of the United States.
