The Town of Middleburgh is one of 16 towns in Schoharie County, NY.

In 1712 German Palatines, thinking they had purchased land from the Indians in the area, relocated to a settlement in what is now southern Middleburgh. The settlement became known as Weiser's dorf, or Weiserdorf, named for Johannes Weiser one of the early settlers.[1][2]

Middleburgh was formed from the town of Schoharie in 1797 as Middletown and renamed Middleburgh in 1801. The village of Middleburgh lies within the town.
