Mighty Oaks Connect-a-Thon Team Standards.

England Project Standards are found here England Project - Space:England_Project_Profile_Standards. But during the thon we can accept a minimal standard, especially if you intend to return to the profile at a later date to complete work on it.

For the Connect A Thon each profile should have:
  1. At least one reliable source - do not use a link to an ancestry family trees, findagrave, Familysearch person profiles, The Peerage.com, or other user-generated trees.
  2. A birth or death date (can be an estimate) and location (can just be the country if that is all you know)
Please remember to add a country to all locations to avoid creating a suggestion for profiles DO NOT use the term United Kingdom before January 1801.

Chat Links

We have a chat space on Discord, which we can use leading up to, and during challenges, If you are not on Discord and want to join us please let Joan know.

Connect A Thon - Do's and Don'ts

Do add new profiles to those that "already exist", so they count.
Do - add at least one source, more if possible. Primary sources are great but not always easy to find Examples are Birth and Death Registration Records, Parish Records,
Do - add 'Research Notes', for information that is uncertain, but may be of help to others. Explain in the notes any doubts you have regarding the information.
Do - add the "a category" to any profiles you create, use the category link, which appears on all profiles.
Don't - Use family trees found on websites such as ancestry as a source. They can be recorded in the biography under an acknowledgment heading, or research notes. Such family trees provide clues about a person and their family but are NOT sources
Don't - On profiles before January 1801 use the term United Kingdom.

Participation: Adding new profiles to existing profiles with a source

Participating means removing profiles from the Unconnected Profiles or needs profiles categories. They must be "added" / "connected" to a profile already existing on WikiTree. All new profiles must have a source to count in the CAT.
Valid sources include census records, BMD records/index references, military documents, land documents, wills, etc. A source cannot be another user-generated family tree, such as Geni, Family Search nor an Ancestry Member Tree.
  • Remove the Unconnected Research Note Box tag or the needs profiles added category.
  • Comment then Save the profile
  • On the Challenge Tracker, you can monitor your contributions and your team's progress.
Also to keep it on our work list add a maintenance category for example in square brackets Category: England Project Needs Biography This is a top-level category so please use the county category when possible. Thanks

Our Team

As team members are from different countries, please remember, that you do not need to work on English profiles any profile counts as long as it is added to an existing profile and has at least one source (Familytree links do not count) must have a source that meets WikiTree standards.

There will only be one team for this Thon - The Mighty Oaks

I too have a list which takes me to a number of continents just hoping I won't get lost or seasick as I'm sure my ancestors did as they migrated to pasture far away. !
