Moffat County is located in northwestern Colorado, and extends to the Utah and Wyoming borders. It is largely uninhabited. Moffat County was originally part of Routt County. It became a separate county in 1911. Craig, the county seat, is also the main population center and only city in Moffat County. Other communities are Dinosaur (originally named Artesia) and Maybell. Other areas of note located in Moffat County are Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge, Dinosaur National Monument,Yampa River State Park,Dinosaur Diamond Scenic Byway, Routt National Forest, and White River National Forest.
