Vrooman wrote several works of historical fiction and non-fiction about upstate New York, including Council Fire and Cannon[1] , a collection of stories about early New York; Forts and firesides of the Mohawk country, New York : the stories and pictures of landmarks of the pre-Revolutionary War period throughout the Mohawk valley and the surrounding country side, including some historic and genealogical mention during the post-war period,[2] The Promised Land, The Story of the Palatine Emigration from the Rhineland Homes to the Hudson and Schoharie Valleys,[3] concerning the Palatines who settled in the Schoharie valley and Conrad Weiser; The Massacre[4], the fictional story of the Schenectady Massacre, which features Cornelis Van Ditmars and Catharine Glen; and Clarissa Putman of Tribes Hill : a romantic history of Sir William Johnson, his family and Mohawk Valley neighbors through the flaming years 1767-1780, the story of Clarissa (Putman) Johnson[5] a historical novel. An accomplished amateur photographer, his pictures of historic sites illustrate many of his books, and were also used to illustrate material produced for the New York State Education Department.[6]
