Montgomeryshire County (Historic)
(Welsh: Sir Drefaldwyn) is one of the thirteen historic counties. With the introduction of the Laws in Wales Acts 1535-1542 the marcher lordships were incorporated into the new counties of Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire.
Under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1974 effective April 1, 1976 Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire and Brecknockshire were combined into the new county of Powys.
Montgomeryshire consists of a significant proportion of the medieval kingdom of Powys Wenwynwyn.
