This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Goal

The goal of this project is to sort out the many variations of the name Mordah and place each in its proper lineage.

Tasks

  • Look for Mordah and it's many name variations, i.e. Murdock, Mordock, Murdoch.
  • determine distinct lineages
  • ascertain if certain variants are unique to geographical locations or time periods within the same lineage

I became interested in the different variations of Mordah when a DAR applicant needed help. She was looking for documentation for William Murdock, Revolutionary War soldier. I volunteered.

While looking for data the name Mordah came up. I was amazed to find that this soldier was the son of my ancestor's brother, 1st cousin 7x removed.

This was in a tiny little DAR chapter in a small town in north Georgia, USA. The Chapter was ecstatic.

How cool is that!

Come and help sort out the different variations of the last name of Mordah, which may be Irish. Please help us get to an understanding of the various surnames used and note for descendants. My family used Mordah in Ireland and one line changed to Murdock in the early 1700s in this country. This makes research difficult. Please help in this effort.

The many variations of the last name of Mordah has caused many mistakes. Sometimes the wife is given a birth name of one of the variations. Sometimes a child will be listed by Murdah and as an example, Murdock when they are the same person.

These are sometimes difficult to find and making merging difficult. To get one line we have a lot of work to do. Please help.
