History should not be changed and rewritten. We need to know our faults and error to keep from repeating them. We need to learn. The main cause of the Civil War was States' Rights, the rest came later, but the Federal Government wanted more money, and it was generated in the South by way of trade and crops. General Lee surrendered the day before General Grant was going to do so. They ran out of food, munitions, clothing, and will. Grant only went with the North, because his home state went with the North. Slavery was not the main reason for the war; however, it has been around from almost the beginning of time and still does. (e.g. Slavery from war, in Africa, Middle East, South America, white slavery, slavery in the drug fields.) Isn's it about time it stopped. People should treat people with respect. Some think I'm interested in my own narrow social group, but I am interested in all people. I try to read a person's heart, and see the good in them though I have found that not all people can be trusted inspite of the good that I may see in them. They take advantage. In doing genealogy, I am learning that there are some things about my family that were not what I thought growing up. As long as I live, I want to keep learning. Hitler and Mussolini confuscated guns when they took over in Germany and Italy; so, the people could not defend themselves. Our guns were for defense of our homes, and finding food (i.e. deer season). Before the weapons are used, a person must be taught to clean it, where, when, how, and why to use a gun. People are not a target unless in defense of home or country. I am a history teacher, and do not want to forget the important things in our lives. Love one another as you would have them love you. I don't care if they are green with purple poka dots. My students thought that was funny, but God's paint brush has many colors. Children represent the future, they need to learn that we are all one people.

My other retirement project besides genealogy, is to knit houseshoes for the nurses and people working at our local hospital. Keep their toes warm. My random act of kindness. They do so much for all of us.
