      • James Swoop aka Jim Swope was a Private in Co. I of the 118th U.S. Colored Infantry. He enlisted on 15-Sep-1864 in Owensboro, Ky. He was mustered in on 23-Sep-1864 in Owensboro, Ky. He was assigned to the Ambulance Corps in the 1st division on 23-Jan-1865. He was discharged for disability on 2-Apr-1865. His discharge papers stated that he was unfit for duty due to a disability he had when he enlisted. He was 30 years old when he enlisted, was a laborer and was 5’3.5” tall. He was born in Union Co., Kentucky. His former owners were Asha Stone of Henderson, Ky and Morgan Swope of Henderson, Ky
