Morrinsville Historic Cemetery
This is a Free-Space page to record the memorials and interments at Morrinsville Old Cemetery, which is signposted by the Council as Morrinsville Historic Cemetery. Morrinsville is 33km north east of Hamilton in the Waikato.
The cemetery is located at 412 Thames Street, Morrinsville, Matamata-Piako District, Waikato, New Zealand, and is surrounded on two sides by housing. A new road has been constructed beside the cemetery for access to new housing that is being built in 2018 and 2019. This cemetery is closed for interments except for already purchased plots. Access is only by foot, as the road front gate is chained unless prior arrangement is made.
Morrinsville serves as 1 of the main town centres of New Zealand's dairy farming areas. The region around the town is sometimes described as among the most intensively farmed areas in the world, from where it gets its town slogan 'cream of the country'. The town is named after Samuel and Thomas Morrin, early settlers who purchased the land as an estate and founded the town to house the estate's workers.
The Morrinsville Museum has done an excellent job of ensuring headstones have been photographed and interments are documented on their website at Morrinsville Museum page on Old Cemetery Thames St. Image copies are available from the museum at a charge, and can be emailed. Note that not all burials have a headstone or a photo. In addition, the Matamata-Piako District Council has headstone photos and details on their online searchable database. Many entries show cause of death. In addition a list of memorials can be found on the Find-a-Grave database. See the page for Morrinsville Old Cemetery on Find-a-Grave.

- photographing headstones and memorials
- tagging photos of headstones and memorials with the cemetery space name
- transcribing memorials
- creating profiles for those interred or memorialised at Morrinsville Cemetery (some listed in the table and not yet created) and linking them to the wider tree
- categorising existing profiles of those interred at Morrinsville Cemetery to ensure they appear under the cemetery category
- adding profiles and information to the sortable table of interments
- checking the table for missing information and/or errors
- re-checking the table periodically for new or amended information
