1880 DIED: Obit Portland Commercial Review 5 Aug 1880. On Friday, July 25, 1880 after a very short illness, Moses Nelson in his 74th year. Mr. Nelson was born in Virginia, August 12, 1806. He moved from Virginia to Jackson County, Ohio in the year 1824? He was married to Miss. Mary Childers, March 3, 1831. After living in Jackson County about 21 years they moved with the family to Jay County, Indiana in 1852 where they have resided ever since. Mr. Nelson has been a member of church (unknown church, ed.) for over 35 years and his family consisted of twelve children, 8 boys and 4 girls of which 6 are now living, 5 boys and 1 girl. Uncle Mosey, as he was called by nearly everyone, was a good neighbor and well respected by all who knew him. He leaves a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Asa Pierce of Ridgeville [Randolph Co] after which the remains were taken to Portland Cemetery for interment followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends. (No grave or stone has been found)
1880 ESTATE: Jay County, IN, Misc. Rec. 25 Aug 1880 p. 556-557 Estate Agreement and partition of property in Bear Creek Twp. Harmon B. Nelson agrees to take care of his mother and property. Lists heirs as: William H. Nelson, James H. Nelson, Nancy A., wife of Stephen Loy, and George A. Nelson. 90ac E 1/2 NW 1/4 S 34ac; 10 ac N end E 1/2 Sw 1/4 S34 T24N R14E.
