History

It was established in 1879 by a purchase of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and expanded by further transfers of surrounding land from Nils B. Peterson to IOOF and the Free Methodist Church. Other cemeteries incorporated in the late 19th and early 20th century are Seattle's first Jewish cemetery, Congregation Chaveth Sholem Cemetery, Seattle Hebrew Benevolent Association Cemetery, Temple de Hirsch (Sinai) Cemetery and Chong Wa Society Chinese Cemetery. A muslim section was established in 1979. It is adjacent to the Butterworth Funeral Home - Arthur A. Wright Chapel and Queen Anne Columbarium, established in 1904, and the Hills of Eternity Jewish Cemetery[1].
