Murray Bridge (Adelaide Road) Cemetery

The reservation and dedication of land in the Hundred of Mobilong for a new cemetery, initially called the Public Cemetery of Mobilong, was made on 10 November 1886 and gazetted on 11 November 1886.[1]

This new cemetery replaced the older one in the Mobilong (Murray Bridge) area, which had been dedicated in October 1884[2] and closed to new rights holders on 10 November 1886.[3] This short-lived cemetery was initially also called the Public Cemetery of Mobilong but commonly the Murray Bridge Cemetery, and it is now called Murray Park Cemetery,

The first burial in the new cemetery was reported as William HILL (c1842-1886), who was buried on 2 October 1886.[4][5]

In February 1892, the cemetery land was declared as a public cemetery reserve and placed under the care, control and management of the District Council of Mobilong,[6]

The Adelaide Road Cemetery closed for new burials, some time in the late 20th century; with the newer Bremer Road Cemetery open.
