Location: Virginia, USA

Prior to my retirement, I was a professional landscape designer in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. I designed pools, patios & terraces, outdoor kitchens & fireplaces, putting greens & bunkers, outdoor lighting & irrigation systems, and water & flower gardens. I now offer landscape designs for the types of projects shown, but not installation services.
My mother's love for flowers had a large impact on my career decision. As a boy, she would take me on walks and show me the various flowers in the neighborhood and elsewhere. She particularly loved Irises, Blackeyed Susans, Lilacs, Redbuds, Roses and Azaleas.
I can remember one Spring as a child, maybe 10 or 11 years old, finding an Iris clump growing wild along a railroad track. I dug it up, brought it home and transplanted it. It thrived! My mother was elated and told me I had the knack for gardening. I guess she was right. Ultimately, it was my wife who urged me to aim high, do what made me happy and pursue my dreams as a landscape designer.
I liked to to design in different styles & won many state[1], regional[2][3] & national awards[4]. A highlight in 1999 was winning co- Best in Show with Marney_Hall, whose floral talents won her a gold medal at the 1998 Chelsea Flower Show in England. We both scored a 98 on a 100 point judging scale at the Maymont Flower & Garden Show in Richmond, Virginia. Marney had been sponsored by my alma mater, the University of Richmond, to appear at the show as a guest speaker & show participant following her win at the Chelsea Show the year before. I hope the university was proud of one of their own once the show results were announced.[5][6]
I also wrote a number of landscape design articles for national gardening periodicals, which were published. Additionally, I had my design work featured on HGTV.com , in national paver brochures and on television in national_television_commercials.
Some of my favorite designers had an influence on my style:
