About the Project

The Nankivell Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Nankivell name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Nankivell name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Nankivell's), by time period (18th Century Nankivell's), or by topic (Nankivell DNA, Nankivell Occupations, Nankivell Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

The surname of NANKIVELL first appeared in the St. Columb Major - St. Mawgan-in-Pydar area of Cornwall, England, in the early 1400s but has now spread world wide.

I believe this line connects with the Nankivell line that moved to Widecombe in the Moore when the Cornish mines stopped producing - my 5th Great Grandparents were Abraham Kivell (spelt various ways) 1715 - 1787 - his wife was Sarah Stook. I believe his father may have been Stephen Kevil/Nankivill (born Cornwall circa 1689) wife Catherrine. Some of the Nankivell group kept the full name and some shortened it to Kevill (various spellings).
