Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about the surname Narramore and its variants and those people who are interested in connecting with the Narramore family and name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Research Areas

Narramore research areas include:

Narramore Y-DNA Tests

As of Aug 2023, there are six known Narramore Y-DNA tests (various spellings including Northmore and a Nichols-Narramore NPE) in the world; they all match. Several men with different surnames also match, especially Wooldrage, Kingston and Heath. The different surnames are probably due to sharing common ancestors prior to surname-standardization, but could be due to a non-parental event (NPE) such as adoption.

Unfortunately, we only have one Narramore Big Y-700 test in the world (ironically, from the Nichols NPE). Until we have more Big Y-700 tests, we won't be able to narrow down timeframes of when our Narramore/Northmore ancestral lines separated.

Narramore: Devon England Roots

All Narramore lines known to date seem to have roots in Devon County, England. Please share your knowledge and theories about early Narramore ancestors and lines of descent here.

Northern US Narramores

Although Narramores have spread across the US, this research area is about the ones who first settled in the northeast - and their descendants.

Southern US Narramores

This research area is about the Narramores who settled early in the southeast - and their descendants.

Nichols-Narramore NPE

Researchers learned in Jan 2021 that some of the Nichols lines previously believed to descend from Walter Nichols (abt.1794-abt.1857) instead descend from a southern Narramore. This research area will try to determine which Nichols lines are affected, and how they connect to the Narramore families.

Based on a new Big Y-700 test from my Nichols cousin, we've learned that we were Narramores before 1825 or so. I'm doing a lot of research on my cousin's behalf, much of which will be of interest to other Narramore descendants. I've created several research areas for the Narramore study and welcome feedback and participation. My particular family's story is told in the Nichols-Narramore NPE topic.
