Location: Pasadena, Harris, Texas, USA
Surname/tag: holben, white
The following information was told to Nelma and Lori Dosser (daughter and granddaughter of Nelma Gene, respectively) by Callie Dean (White) Anderson (youngest sister of Nelma Gene):
"I was working in Houston, Texas, when I got the call that my older sister had passed away. Nelma Gene was living in the home of our oldest brother and sister-in-law), Floyd Ray and Myrtle Juanita (McMasters) White, in Pasadena, Texas. At the time, the Texas coast was experiencing a hurricane* so traveling the few miles to Pasadena was difficult. Her husband, Jim Holben, was stationed at Ellington Field (Houston, Texas) and was helping bring in planes due to the hurricane. The bus I was riding in could only make it to Pasadena High School. I found a police officer, told him about my sister and he took me to my brother's house. By the time I arrived at the house my clothes and luggage were soaked. The wind was awful. As my sister was being wheeled into the ambulance she said "Oh no!" and then passed away. (Note by Lori Dosser: I'm not sure who told Aunt Callie what grandma said as she arrived after she had already passed away. I'm assuming it was either her brother, Ray, or sister-in-law, Myrtle)."
