Nelsonville, Ohio

Nelsonville was laid out in June of 1818 and is named for Daniel Nelson who owned the land the town is sitting on. It was incorporated in 1838.

Nelsonville's first election was held on 27 Apr 1839 when Charles Cable was elected mayor, A.J. Bond, recorder, and John Coe, S.M. Shepherd, John Hull, W.W. Poston, and James Rusk were elected trustees. James Rusk declined and Thomas L. Mintun was appointed in his place. Luther Burt was appointed marshall and Robert Miller the treasurer.
