Church Records
Church records from St. Martin in Nettesheim (1665-1811) are indexed on Family Search as image group 8097072. The parish includes the villages of Anstel, Butzheim, Frixheim and Nettesheim. They became Frixheim-Anstel and Nettesheim-Butzheim and are now part of Rommerskirchen. This includes baptisms and marriages only. The church books are now viewable online at the Landesarchiv Nordrhein Westfalen as Nrs. BA 1805, BA 1805a, BA 1805b. They are very legible for baptisms (the copied version) and marriages but can be difficult for burials. Early burial records don't include ages or spouses or parents of adults. Children are named as child of the father. This makes it somewhat difficult beyond the legibility issue. Marriages from 1727-1756 are missing.
Digitales Archiv des Erzbistums Köln has more church records from Nettesheim including baptisms from 1818-1853, marriages for 1818-1938 and deaths from 1818-1938.
There are some patterns among the church records. Children were almost always named after the Godparent of the same sex and Godparents were usually siblings of the parents or grandparents, but not always. The village was also listed which can sometimes help sort out people of the same name. There are quite a few illegitimate children and the baptismal records recorded the father most of the time in the earlier records and many times it was written that the parents intended to marry.
