About this Team
- Goal: To create and maintain an error-free category structure for the New Zealand Project
- What we will be doing:
- 1. Correcting all category errors in the New Zealand structure, including adding content to categories that have none, removing headings, lines and ref tags, as well as renaming any duplicate categories, or categories that have spelling or punctuation errors.
- 2. Providing information and assistance to members about category usage and creation.
- 3. Maintenance tasks, including adding the Category Info Box (CIB) to relevant categories, and moving profiles to lower-level categories, if relevant.
- 4. Assist with reviewing the existing structure, proposing changes and preparing a proposal for approval by the New Zealand project and presenting it to the Categorization project; implementing the approved structure and name format.
- 5. Monitor newly created categories to ensure they follow agreed formats, especially in parts of the structure where major changes have been or are being implemented.

New Zealand Location Categories
- Categories for New Zealand locations are added within the New Zealand sticker and are based on birthplace in New Zealand or places of residence. See here for formatting of region and place (town).
- Historically correct place names are actively encouraged in the "data" section at the top of profiles but are likely to require extra research e.g. Whangārei, Auckland, Hamilton, Taupō, Tauranga and Gisborne were all part of Auckland Province from 1853-1876. The animated timeline may assist with historical location names.
- The New Zealand Geographic Board : Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa, New Zealand’s place naming authority, promotes the use of Māori place names; Māori place names use macrons. LINZ - Land Information New Zealand : Toitū Te Whenua publishes the official list of New Zealand place names in the New Zealand Gazetteer of place names. As time permits, place names on WikiTree will be updated to the New Zealand Geographic Board standard.
- Stickers and place name categories are created using the current 16 regions established in 1989.
