Communication with Members

  • All NZP members will be invited to join the Kiwi Crew Discord server
  • Initial policy discussions will take place there and any decisions of note will be open for discussion via G2G
  • there will be occasional newsletter, perhaps every couple of months, to outline anything new which has happened within the project. The purpose of the newsletter is to maintain member interest.

Membership

  • anyone with an interest in New Zealand can join the project
  • potential members will need to have made about 100 contributions and have created at least 5 profiles - in other words, they should have some idea how the WikiTree system works
  • there will be no project check-ins

Teams

  • NZP members do not need to join a team
  • there will be at at least 3 teams - Maintenance, Challenges and Topics
  • there could be a Notables team, but that will need to be discussed with the Notables Project (Scott Fulkerson) to understand the rights and responsibilities of NZP members. Eowyn to have this discussion with Scott? Melanie Paul is keen to be in charge of this team
  • teams don't necessarily need a leader
    • the role of the team leader could be to encourage members to participate in particular activities
    • the team leader could work with members, the PCs and leader to determine the parameters of that team
  • all the existing pages about teams need to be merged so there is only one current page attached to the project page

Notables

  • the project co-ordinators will continue to manage the 30+ PP protected profiles of NZ notables most of whom are still alive
  • as they are identified, the NZP will take back management of PP and locked NZ notables

Maintenance Team

  • there are a number of project members already doing sterling work e.g Graeme Olney and Darren Kellett with categories
  • some of the NZP maintenance categories are well-used e.g. Needs Profiles Created for children and parents
  • there needs to be another category for profiles with minimal information where nothing new is likely to be found easily online e.g. early Māori unsourced profiles with research notes, profiles of children with very common names where it is extremely difficult to identify marriages and deaths etc. These profiles bloat existing maintenance categories. The new maintenance category could be additional to the existing Unsourced category
  • guidelines for each of the maintenance pages needs to be reviewed so their use is clear. The Needs Records categories, for example, should only be used when an online record has not been located because it is not available yet, or if records haven't been looked for carefully. If that has happened a Research Note should be added to the profile and the category removed
