What we know
The Newell family have been created to provide an ancestry for the emigrant Abraham Newell (abt.1584-1672). Abraham was documented leaving from Ipswich, Suffolk, England on board the "Francis" in 1634. He was said to be 50 years old at the time and married to Francis (Unknown) Newell (abt.1594-1682) Both of these profiles are under the management and PPP of the Puritan Great Migration Project.
A baptism has not been found for Abraham Newell
A baptism has not been found for Francis (Unknown) Newell his wife
A marriage has not been found for them but presumed before 1619 given the age of their oldest known child.
This book "The genealogies and estates of Charlestown " D. Clapp may have been the origin for the internet belief that his father was also Abraham. The reference is for Abraham the emigrant's son (and is clearly stated in the book). [1]
