Introduction

General John McPherson (1756 - 1806) was the owner of several plantations in South Carolina. Low Country Africana has transcribed the estate inventory of John McPherson, made (following his death at sea) in December of 1806, which lists enslaved ancestors at Laureum, Pine Comfort, Cotton Hall and Heneka Hill Plantations in Prince William Parish, Beaufort District, and Newron Plantation in Colleton District, SC. [1]

Newton Plantation on Pon Pon was located at the Edisto River, St. Bartholomew's Parish, Colleton County, South Carolina. It is now part of the Hope Plantation complex, which also includes Ashe Plantation, Buzzard Island, Cattell Island, Old Hope Planation, Pringle Field Plantation, Rotterdam Plantation, and West Bank Plantation, plus the previously-combined properties of Baynard Plantation and Hywassee Plantation .
