This page includes templates and examples of citations for sources frequently used for English genealogical research. This is not an official Wikitree page, I have simply added my personal source templates to this page in case they are of use to others.
They are based on the Evidence Explained citation style. They are far from perfect, but the aim is to clearly identify the source of the information by answering the key questions who, what, where, when and wherein.
For sources behind paywalls, the template aims to incorporate as much genealogically-relevant material as practicable.

Note: It is generally better to use the GRO Online index for births, as the mother's maiden name is included from 1837. However, FreeBMD is useful where the relevant entry can't be found on GRO Online or the transcribed details are different between the two sites (which use independently created indexes).
