This page is for notes about the descendants of Sarah Aubrey Noland and her husband Jacob Lewis, with information from descendant Richard Lewis (via e-mails to Liz Shifflett, November 2022)
Richard's lineage:
- married 1 Jan 1769 in Frederick, Maryland[1]
- son Jacob Lewis, born 1778, married Elizabeth Gibson (b 1780), daughter of John Gibson[4]
- died about 23 November 1812 (final will of Jacob Lewis - not sure if that's the date it was written or date proved)
- Jacob Lewis born 1778, died 1850 (according to FamilySearch).[5]
- The two sources were a message board query - this one - and the following 1850 census info.
- The 1850 census finds Jacob Lewis, 72, born in North Carolina, in the Nacogdoches, Texas household of Jacob Lewis:[6]
- Jacob Lewis (36), born in Georgia[6]
- Pernetta Lewis (36), born in Kentucky[6]
- Jacob Lewis (11), born in Texas[6]
- Isaac Lewis (9), born in Texas[6]
- Elizabeth Lewis (7), born in Texas[6]
- John Lewis (5), born in Texas[6]
- Mariah Lewis (4), born in Texas[6]
- William Lewis (1), born in Texas[6]
- Lineage from Jacob to Richard: 1750, 1778, 1811, 1842, 1891, 1914 and myself
- Which means 1778 Jacob may be the same who is 72 in 1850, but the two other Jacobs in that census don't match the dates (Richard's lineage is 1811 & 1842; Jacob, age 36 = b 1814; Jacob, age 11 = b 1839)
- Jacob Lewis III (1811-1885) is attached to a profile for Pernetta (Harris) Lewis (1812-1876), so I added the 1850 info to his profile, which previously had only Find a Grave as a source: Find A Grave: Memorial #10365600 for Jacob Lewis, born 7 February 1811, died 4 December 1885, buried at Oak Grove Cemetery. One of the images attached is for a historic marker that identifies Jacob Lewis as one of the "other statesmen and soldiers interred here". His modern tombstone says that he was a "Veteran of the Siege of Bexar, December 1835".[7]
- John Ward Lewis (1845-1924), Find A Grave: Memorial #49628906 for John Ward Lewis (4 Feb 1845 - 11 Nov 1924)
- Find A Grave: Memorial #49629606 for James Jacob "Jake" Lewis (Apr 1839 - 6 Oct 1909)
- Find A Grave: Memorial #49629606 for Richard Leon Lewis (15 Nov 1914 - 19 Jan 1978)
