Team Information
The Nordic Noir team participates in all WikiTree Thons. Our focus is mainly on working with profiles that are based in or related to people from Scandinavian countries, though you may choose to work on profiles from other locations. Most members of the team are members of the Nordic Project but that is not a requirement to join.
WikiTree hosts one Thon event per quarter. Joining information for each event is posted on G2G and you can answer that post to join the team for the event. These events are great ways to add to the accuracy of WikiTree and are fun ways to meet and chat with other WikiTreers with a similar research focus. Each event has it's own team page with more information about the given Thon. Links to the pages will be provided below once a new Thon has been announced.

Although these sources are generally reliable, they can have errors and you will learn how to evaluate the information contained in them, especially when one source contradicts another. Here are examples of original sources where the information gathered from them is generally considered reliable:
- Birth records.
- Death records.
- Marriage records.
- Family bibles with birth/marriage/death dates.
- Books that cite primary sources. This would Include books that transcribe birth/marriage/death records as well as authored family histories or trees that cite birth/marriage/death records.
- Military records.
- Will and estate records.
- Court records.
- Burial records.
- History books that would have collected information from the subjects themselves.
- Newspaper articles with the publication name, date, and location.
- A proof summary of multiple sources of supporting evidence used to draw a reasonable conclusion.
- A secondary source is one that is written after the event or period has passed. Secondary sources can still be reliable if they cite primary sources. They can be useful for clues about where to look for primary sources, or for background information to expand the profile's biography (for example, a history book which covers an occupation and what it was like during the time period we are researching).

Tips and Tricks
We recommend using Google Chrome as there is a row of useful addons that can be used for the thon and everyday wikitree'ing. Here's a list:
- AutoTextExpander: Copy/Paste is not enough? Try setting up your own text macros with this addon. Simply set up the texts and connect it to a shortcut on your keyboard. Now you can instantly paste various texts it into the field/box your working in. Highly useful for those favorite sources or categories. Directlink: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/auto-text-expander-for-go/iibninhmiggehlcdolcilmhacighjamp
- WikiTree X: Do you use FamilySearch Tree often and want to import or connect the data to WikiTree? This app is the fastest and easiest tool to do so. When it is installed you will be able to click the WikiTree X icon when you're on a FST profile and either update the Wikitree profile or import a profile. To update a profile paste the WikiTreeID into the top field and click "go". It will load an overview where you can chose which data should be set on the WikiTree profile. To import a profile pick what relationship the person has to the WikiTreeID in question and click "go". Marriage dates seems to not get imported, so this may be set manually before the profile is created, also if a person have alternative names, it might not always be set to the "main one", so keep an eye on this so the LNAB is correct. Please only import profiles that has at least one valid source, even better is to add a direct link to a FS-source as by standard the source simply links to the profile. (Researching Sweden I like to add a direct link to the birth source at Riksarkivet as a custom fact before importing a profile, two birds, one stone.) - WikiTree AGC: Working those pesky messy Gedcom suggestions? This will help order information from a Gedcom import chronologically. Directlink: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/wikitree-agc/jbmjbhgjjademhplejlndlbolmodingj
- Linkclump: Working from a list of profiles and want to open them all in separate tabs? With this addon you can open two or more links in one go by holding "z" down on the keyboard and holding down the left mouse button and dragging it over a set of links: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/linkclump/lfpjkncokllnfokkgpkobnkbkmelfefj/related

Information and Guides
Spring Clean-A-Thon (Spring)
Goal: To clear as many suggestions and errors on Wikitree.com as possible.
Information Spring Clean-a-thon
Team Nordic Noir will focus on database errors also known as "suggestions" for profiles in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland and Sweden.
Instructions
- Choose a profile to work on. I recommend starting with the profiles in your own Watchlist. You can generate an error report for all the profiles you manage by going https://plus.wikitree.com/default.htm & entering your profile ID in the "Managed by" field.
- Click on the Status button at the right-hand side and check to see what others have already done, if anything.
- Correct the error, or choose an option to explain why it doesn't need to be corrected. If the profile isn't one that you manage, be very careful about the corrections you make and explain your changes in the box provided. Provide sources whenever possible or relevant.
- Once you've worked through your own list, feel free to branch out to the other profiles in Scandinavia, which have been listed in the table below. If you like, you can choose to work on a time period, or a specific type of error.
How To Get Points (Important!)
- 1. After correcting the error, go back to the Status page.
- 2. Be sure to enter your WikiTree ID in the box that says "Status Set By WikiTree ID"
- 3. Choose the appropriate status and add a comment if needed.
- 4. Click the ADD button at the bottom to save it. When saved, it will appear in the status history.
Advice for Spring Cleaning
Working the more simple suggestions will of course let you correct more errors in a small amount of time, ideal for a thon! But tackling the more challenging errors that might require some research time is just as good a choice. It all comes down to what you enjoy working on. Any amount of corrections is greatly appreciated, it all brings value to the tree and who knows maybe that one correction is what put us over the finishing line!
In an ideal world all suggestions should eventually be cleared either way, but there are suggestions that brings more value to the health of our global family tree than others. Errors such as misconnected relationships, no dates on profiles, people who was too young or too old to be parents, all indicating errors in research or a faulty import to the tree. Do you have any suggestions in your own tree? Check it out either by going to Wikitree+ and adding your WikiTreeID under the "Manager" headline or goto your profile (or any profile you wish to work on) and hoover with your mouse over the WikiTreeID in the top menu, at the bottom of the list you will find "Suggestions", this will load suggestions for the first couple of generations; which is expandable. Always remember to fill out your WikiTreeID on the status page for the suggestion set the status as corrected with a short explanation.
Some things to consider. If the profile you are correcting has a manager, be courteous, always explain your changes via the field above the bio. This is especially important when dealing with errors in research, always source the changes you make so that the person managing the profile doesn't feel railroaded and can follow up on what you found.
Wikitree+
Wikitree+ allows you to create custom suggestion lists and can be found on this link: https://plus.wikitree.com/default.htm
In the left side menu you can generate a list of specific suggestions.
As an example, I want to work on Swedish profiles from the 19th century and decide to tackle the 311 suggestion. This is the suggestions for profiles with missing dates, but that is connected to a relative that does have dates. I pick 311 in the list under the "Suggestion" headline on the left side menu and under the "Text" headline I fill out "Sweden 19cen" which generates the following list: https://plus.wikitree.com/default.htm?report=err6&Query=Sweden+19cen&MaxErrors=1000&ErrorID=133
You can see in the red or yellow field the difficulty rating of an error and if there is a help video you find a link to YouTube as well.
